How to get rid of rats in your drains, fast!

Suffering problems with Rats infesting your drainage system? Rats entering your property? Rats causing drain damage?

Are you experiencing rodent problems in your home or business premises? Have problems with rats in your drains in the Market Harborough area? You can rest assured The Drain People will locate & eliminate them. We clear Rats from drains in Market Harborough & all the surrounding areas. Rat infestation in drains is common and can be extremely difficult to eradicate, especially in the tight confines of a sewage drainage system. A rat infestation could make your property, whether it’s a residential or business building, unsafe for habitation or prevent a business from trading.

The Drain People are here to help, 24/7, 365 days a year. Using powerful equipment and the latest technology, our drainage experts can solve any rat infestation or nesting problem. To get rid of your rat problem and, more importantly, help to prevent further infestations, it’s always best to hire professionals who have experience in rodent control. We are well equipped to take care of any rodent-related problem. Rat infestations do not go away easily and over-the-counter chemical or trapping solutions generally are not an effective or long-term solution to a rodent invasion.

Our rat detection & elimination services cover all aspects of internal & external drainage. We use state-of-the-art CCTV cameras to inspect and survey your drain to ascertain if rat invasion is taking place. If it is, we can proceed to clear drain blockages caused by rat infestation or nesting and repair any drain damage caused by the rats. The drains can be cleared using high-pressure water jetting, and re-infestation prevented by the fitting of special ‘rat gateways’ which create a barrier to stop rats moving upstream into your drainage system.

On every job, we will always assess the situation initially and identify the problem. We’ll then give you a full explanation and a no-obligation quote. If you are happy we will then proceed and remove the rat infestation with a minimum of fuss. We pride ourselves on getting the job done swiftly whilst always upholding our high standards of workmanship and professionalism. Where suitable, we use eco-friendly, biodegradable chemicals, for blockages caused by fat or grease build-up, or root ingress.

Before you know it, your drains will be back to normal and working perfectly, and you can return to your normal daily life.

For rodent emergencies, we will try our very best to get to you within 1 hour if possible. We understand encountering Rats can be very stressful, and also unhygienic. You can rely on us to be prompt.

Why do Rats go into drains?

Unfortunately, sewers and drains provide the perfect habitat for Rats. Your drainage system is the ideal environment for them to live and move about, and to nest and reproduce. They also use drains as a network to get around, especially in urban environments.

Various detritus and excess food waste further encourage rodents to inhabit drainage systems. In very cold winter weather, your drains are far more amenable to a family of Rats than a nest nearer to frozen ground level.

In addition, Rats are adapted to see and exist perfectly well in dark and dank closed spaces, so your drains hold no fear for them. You can be sure your rodent visitors are not claustrophobic in the slightest!

How do they gain access to your drains?

Over 90% of all rodent infestations are as a result of defective or broken drains. Rats are very crafty creatures and can easily gain access through even the smallest gap in your sewer or pipes. Popular entry points include open or broken joints and redundant drainage lines – both of which are fairly common in large drainage systems.

Rats can easily burrow and gnaw their way through most materials; damaging sewer lines causing and worsening defects. Once in, the rats can then move easily through the network and between manholes and rat colonies can quickly establish themselves in your drainage system.

How might you know or suspect you have a rodent infestation in your drains?

Some tell-tale signs might be chewed paper, food packets, wood or plastic will alert you to the fact rodents are present, but is it mice or rats?

Because Rats are much larger than mice, their tell-tale signs are also bigger. Rat droppings, dark pellets, are the big giveaway. Easily spotted, they can be up to 10 mm in size, much bigger than mouse droppings.

If you find a hole in external pipes leading to your drains, obviously enlarged by gnawing, have a good look at the teeth marks, you should be able to decide if they’re large enough to be a rat’s.

Rats, being nocturnal animals, tend to do their foraging at night. But you may see one or two at dusk in or around your property. If you do, you need to call out the experts to check and see if you have a serious problem on your hands.

OK, you have called us out – How do we go about locating & detecting if you have a rat problem in your drains?

The Drain People have many years experience dealing with rats infesting drainage systems – we know where to look.

We will inspect manholes, outlets and we have specialised CCTV equipment, allowing us to check all your hard-to-reach pipework, look for evidence of rats, their nests or presence and crucially, identify where the rats are entering and exiting your drains.

CCTV Drain Camera Surveys (Drain Inspection) allows our engineers to discover the true condition of your drains. We can provide our customer with a DVD and detailed report providing full recommendations for any repair work that may be required.

CCTV drain surveys are ideal for providing a complete picture of the condition of the drainage system. Our advanced cameras can locate and identify any drainage faults, leaking pipes or joints, blockages and any other problems that could be allowing Rat infestation. We can also provide you with a DVD of drainage survey for insurance purposes.

How do we eradicate the rats from your drains, and also prevent re-infestation?

Damaged drains are the most common way rats gain entrance to drains & sewers. Our CCTV inspection should be able to identify the location of the damage and we can then set about making good a repair to seal off this access point.

Any rat’s nests we find will be cleared either manually or using high-pressure water jetting.

To prevent re-infestation we can deploy ‘rat gates’ which fit snugly into your drains, acting as a sluice gate, allowing waste to freely flow one way outwards, but which otherwise are closed, forming a physical barrier around which Rats cannot pass.

‘No dig’ is always our preferred option as it means we can get you sorted out nice and fast and get on our way to our next job!
