Why do Rats go into drains?
Unfortunately, sewers and drains provide the perfect habitat for Rats. Your drainage system is the ideal environment for them to live and move about, and to nest and reproduce. They also use drains as a network to get around, especially in urban environments.
Various detritus and excess food waste further encourage rodents to inhabit drainage systems. In very cold winter weather, your drains are far more amenable to a family of Rats than a nest nearer to frozen ground level.
